Schilling, who had announced his planned retirement after the 07′ season for a U.S. Senate candidacy has had a change of heart, and has announced that he will play after the 07′ season.
This is great news for all of us. I am a huge Curt Schilling fan, and hope that he stays around. He’s an older vet of the league, but he’s still got the skill to be able to start for any team. However, now that we have Daisuke, I’m afraid that he may not be re-signed to Boston after his contract is up in 07′.
We may sign him again out of good faith, and Schilling has expressed his wanting to be on the team again. However, he says that he will be open to all options after the 07′ season. The only team that is NOT an option, are, of course, the New York Yankees. Great news and loyalty (unlike Randy *cough sellout* Johnson).
Do you guys think that Boston will re-sign him after the 07′ year? It seems like Schilling’s career is definitely not in its prime anymore, but he’s still a great pitcher, with a marvelous history. He would be great if he stayed, for team chemistry and what have you, but I would not be suprised if he went off and pitched for another team.
Thoughts?
